We will promote online procedures for death and inheritance.
Overview
With death or inheritance, various administrative procedures and private procedures occur for the bereaved family. The required procedures differ depending on the deceased or the bereaved family, and the procedures can be done in a variety of places. Therefore, it is difficult to comprehensively grasp the required procedures.
In addition, in the 2023 Vital Statistics Survey in , Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare, the number of deaths in Japan exceeded 1.57 million, the highest number since the survey began, and the burden on society as a whole is expected to increase in the future. 2023
As part of this initiative, we aim to reduce the burden on bereaved families, improve convenience, and streamline procedures in municipalities, etc. by promoting online digitalisation for procedures related to death and inheritance as follows.
- Based on the policy reported at the Digital Government Subcommittee in FY 2020, the GOJ will promote the following measures in cooperation with the ministries and agencies concerned and local governments. 2020
- In light of the verification test that took place during FY 2021 (FY 2021), Digital Agency, along with Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare and Ministry of Justice, will identify issues in preparation for the online digitalisation of death procedures (submission of death notifications and death certificates (Certificate of Postmortem Examination)). At the same time, the GOJ will consider designing and developing specific systems to realize the online digitalisation.
- The City of Digital Agency will work with the City of Ministry of Justice to identify issues for social implementation of measures to reduce the burden on bereaved families related to the identification of legal heirs, based on past studies, and support their realization.
