First Japan-Saudi Arabia Expert Meeting on Digital Government in 2024

On October 11, 2023, the Digital Agency signed a Memorandam of Cooperation (MoC) with the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (MCIT) in the fields of information technology, communications and digital economy.
Following the 2023 MoC, the Digital Agency held its first online expert meeting with MCIT, the Digital Government Authority (DGA), and the Ministry of Interior (MoI) on July 31, 2024. Participants exchanged views, shared technical expertise, and held a workshop.
The following is a summary of the agenda and discussions at the first expert meeting online.
1. Direction of Digital Government Strategy
DGA shared insights on the progress of digitalization across the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, its medium- and long-term goals, and its contributions to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
2. Digital Regulation
DGA shared the key objectives related to the Digital Government regulatory framework, as well as its scope and approach. DGA also indicated that it would continue its efforts to improve the quality of regulation.
3. About Absher
Regarding "Absher", the government-provided online service platform, MoI shared information on the digital service platform through practical examples and introduced its latest initiatives.
4. Artificial Intelligence (AI)
Digital Agency introduced efforts to expand the use of generative AI in public administration, and DGA shared specific examples of AI applications.
These expert meetings lead to tangible progress under the MoC, directly fostering mutual support to advance the digital government initiatives of both countries. They will continue sharing best practices and deepening their cooperation through the MoC.
